VSF Sunday and feeling better

Today my dad and I playtested WtNW again. The game was fun.  I might have had a few more points but it was evened out with his buggar british units.  The Atlantians Hydrosteam lances work well and the units seemed to be able to hold their own.  Unfortunately although I wanted to get pictures I was unable to get them out.  I will get some next week as we are doing the freebie scenario for rorke's drift ala steampunk.

I am feeling better by the way.  A big thank you to those that wished me well.

Yes Eli those are the Black Raven Amazons I told you about but they are Atlantians with hydro lances and dinosaurs with big freaking lazers err some kind of nasty power they vent off their heads.

Slump

Like Eli, this past week I've been on a gaming slump with the exception of the VSF world I've been working on but this weekend I got some of my army completed for the Atlantians.  I've been sick this weekend and I am hoping it goes away soon.  It is some kind of stomach bug I think.  So that's where I am currently.  Tomorrow we're going to play some VSF again and I am looking forward to that.  Then it's back to work on Monday.

Atlantians

Today I finished up my Atlantians for my WtNW game.  I used caribbean blue and darker blues to bring out the plumage on the headdresses.  These are Amazon figures from Black Raven Foundry that I have painted in a different scheme.  Yes those are two mage knight figures which I am using as Atlantians Hydro-Steam bots.  Notice they have access to Earthin's population of dinosaurs and they are often seen in the company of the Atlantian hunting parties.  These guys are well on their way to completing my smallish army for the Atlantians. I am going to add some Marion Romans and Greek pikemen  They use hydrosteam pikes which allows them to shoot projectiles and their technology is on-par and in some cases more advanced than that of the Great Powers.

Colonial Painting

I met with my buddy Chris last night and picked up my half and his half of our colonials.  I am going to paint up his and he is giving me the other half.  I think it is a great deal.  While we were at his house he tossed some other stuff in the box, mostly zulus and french foreign legion.  I got a bunch of brits and egyptians out of the deal.  I will start to post pictures soon as I begin to work on them all. There are probably over 400 of the buggers.

Update on WtNW and Looking for VSF Artist

Most of you know that I am working on a Victorian/Edwardian Science Fiction miniatures game.  This game is already quite rich in history.  So far we have playtested the game a few times and I’ve been busy making changes to the overall rules. It is looking like it is going to be a lot of great fun!  I believe that I have a nice setup here with this albeit in a very small market of gamers who like VSF.  I am also going to be making a role playing game using the same history from the miniature game.  The book is currently about 50 pages and it is my plan to release about one book every three to six months.  Note that the titles of these books and the specific release dates may change.  All of these will be available from Wargame Vault.com as pdfs and soon print on demand. When the Navy Walked on Rorke’s Drift (freebie), When the Navy Walked Core Book, Army Book – The Great Powers, Scenario Book – The Conquest of Africa, Scenario Book – The Conquest of Asia, Army Book – Atlantians and Skypirates, Army Book – The Inner Earth, Scenario Book – Explorations of the Inner Earth, Scenario Book – Skypirates, Scenario Book- The Great War, Army Book – Airships and Tripods, Army Book – Martians, Venusians and the Grays..etc.

I am also looking for an artist who enjoys this kind of setting.  At first I may pay for specific pieces but I’d like to setup some kind of royalty agreement.  If you are interested in drawing for a game with a rich history set in a world of steam and intrigue send me your portfolio to cronickain@gmail.com and we can discuss.

What is your favorite game?

It is either the way the mechanics work to our advantage or because we love rolling loads of dice.  It might not be everyone's favorite but it is that game that we hold special in our hearts because of a specific time or place.  We play it even though it is old or new or non really relevant any longer but we try to get our friends to play it every time someone suggests something new at the game table.  So I'd like to hear from all of you - what is your favorite game?  What makes it special and why do you like it?

Siege of Augusta Pics

My buddy Dave over at Volley Fire Wargames has posted some great pictures from Siege of Augusta.  Unfortunately, because he used the Kodak camera app I cannot copy them down so if you want to check out the Ambush Alley game I ran and the Pirate games I played in along with some nice Darkest Africa and Colonial games check out his blog.

New Dwarven Forge!

A whole bunch of Dwarven Forge just arrived in the mail for me the other day. I will be holding massive Dungeon Crawls soon!  I got six, count em, six boxes of the stuff from a friend who no longer has need of it so he gave me a good deal on the lot back in December.  I now have four rooms and passages sets, two wicked additions 1 and one wicked additions 2 sets, one narrow corridors set and several neat little trap pieces such as the ramp with the boulder and the trapped corner set.  This is a good thing because in the Chronicles of the Six they are about to enter the Yuan-ti's temple in Chult.  Time to get out the old Chult modules and the Serpent Kingdoms book because the reptiles will be having some very nice digs indeed and the adventurers will have to unlock the mysteries of the jungle and the connection to the lands of Chult.  Next week will be the next podcast session of the game as last Saturday we ended up playing Rock Band and discussing the finer points of computer building which although interesting was not exactly what I wanted to podcast.  There will be pictures of the setups and of game play from the podcast here on my blog.

Victorian Science Fiction Hit List

What is VSF?  Clockwork robots, machines, alien tripods, Martian flying craft, Colonial powers battling it out on distant and sometimes deadly planets.  A few of you have asked me over the past few months what I am interested in and what I am looking for to complete my Victorian/Edwardian Science Fiction enterprise.  Since my tastes vary and I believe that an entire race might make multiple variations of a vehicle or war machine it is my intention to build up a good number of different models to represent the various forces in the setting for When the Navy Walked.  I have built up a wish list that includes several variations of tripods, war machines, steam tanks and alien menaces including cephalopods and grays.  Below you will find a list by the product description and then the number of figures in a pack, the number of packs I want for WtNW.  If nothing else this list serves as a 'project to-do' list for 2010 for me.  I have included pictures of various miniatures but if the manufactures wish for me to remove them from my blog I will do so.  In addition, I have included a link to their sites as a courtesy to them and to you in case you want some of these nifty machines yourself.  Most of these can be found on the now famous Frothers Unite site.  Enjoy!
