That's Like Totally A Dragon!

This post is not really gaming related but it kind of is in a geeky way.  A friend of mine works as an IT Engineer (most of my friends are in IT, Accounting or Military go figure) and he said that he got a call from a VPN user who was trying to connect to the company VPN.  The problem was,  he says, that the user told him that the reason he was having problems is that the ISP told them that their Large Hadron Collider had gone down.

I wonder how many times we do these types of jokes at the gaming table?  Do any of you work in IT or share similar funny stories with your groups?  I think this one is a riot!

It's like telling a party that there is a dragon guarding the treasure when really there is a couple of kobolds who have bad breath.  So when is a dragon not a dragon? Answer: When it's a Large Hadron Collider.

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock

  1. That's how complex the world has become, or how focused we have, that we don't have the faintest idea of how some of the basic elements of our everyday lives come together. Good joke though - well done that specialist I say!

Your analogy works in the sense that in roleplaying the party might really be going into completely unknown territory.

  2. The more we advance in technology the more ignorant we realize we are.

  3. I work in IT. "Why wasn't it working? Oh, it was just an I.D. 10-T error." I got a lot of mileage out of that one.

  4. I know about the ID10T error. Very clever. I've used 'keyboard user interface error' and 'personal computer relationship problems'.
